Agriculture is getting a make over and it looks fucking cool. A team from Barcelona has designed floating farms that could feed the world in upcoming decades. The globes population is set to balloon to 9.2 billion by 2050 and we are running out of room to farm effectively. These multi levelled structures would be capable of catching 1.7 million fish a year. Solar panels on the roof would provide power, while crops could also be grown on another level.
The main benefit is that these could be located next to major cities like London and New York. This would cut down on shipping costs, which would benefit the environment massively.
There’s also a big push to start farming in cities, create grazing fields on buildings and underground plantations that could harness thermal energy.
These types of innovations could help regions around the world cope with the need for more food, they can also make cities look bloody cool.
